About the Training

Brought to you through a partnership with the Association on American Indian Affairs, the University of Montana, and Your Neighborhood Museum
DRAFT AGENDA
This comprehensive, in-person training is designed for:
  • Native Nations with homelands in the Plains
    • The Plains Region includes Native Nations that identify as "Plains" from Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Wyoming.
  • Institutions with collections affiliated to the Plains Nations
  • Organizations with regional or national influence in repatriation work

Participants will receive hands-on training and receive a certificate in:
  • NAGPRA regulations and legal requirements
  • ​Collaboration and consultation
  • Compliance strategy and documentation
  • Collections management practices 

​This training is built for practitioners actively working in repatriation. Sessions include mock scenarios, collaborative problem-solving, talking circles, and focused workshops on compliance and museum management. Participants leave with practical tools they can use immediately.

Native Nation participants who successfully complete the training will receive a $100 gift card to support their participation.

Earn Your Certificate

All participants who successfully complete the three-day training will receive a certificate from the Association on American Indian Affairs recognizing their demonstrated knowledge of NAGPRA compliance and repatriation practices. View the summary agenda to see all required sessions.

To successfully complete the training, participants must:
  • ​Complete both a written pre-assessment and post-assessment to evaluate overall learning and individual progress.
  • Attend all required sessions in full and on time, including NAGPRA Training, Intergenerational Healing, and Coalition Building. (Collections Care and Management is optional.)
  • Complete all sessions marked with an asterisk (*) on the agenda, which are required to receive the certificate and gift card.

All attendees must register in advance by May 4, 2026. This training is in-person only. ​Register and pay by credit card, PayPal or ACH. Dinner provided for the cultural event night, all other meals on your own.

Enhance Your Registration by Becoming a Member
Registration does not include membership to the Association, but annual registration is just $25 and lifetime membership is $500. Membership gives you access to the Association’s bi-annual subscription publication—the longest consistent publication about Native Country, access to email calls to action, information sharing, and governance rights in the organization. Membership is not required to participate in the Conference.

Communications
By registering, you are consenting to receive all communications via email about the Conference. If you do not received your receipt for this transaction, the email likely went to your spam/junk folder. Please add the Association to your safe senders list so you can receive all important notices about the Conference. Refunds & Substitutions
No refunds. If you are unable to attend, you must notify the Association to cancel your registration, even if your registration was free. If you wish to substitute another individual for your registration, send an email to [email protected] to request a substitution. Substitutions may be made up until May 4, 2026 by written notification to the Association.​

​Permission to Record
By registering to attend virtually, registrants, speakers, instructors, exhibitors, and vendors attending the Association on American Indian Affairs’ event agree that they may be recorded during the event, including video, photography and audio recordings. The Association reserves the right to use these recordings in educational materials without providing monetary compensation. If you do not wish to be recorded, turn off your audio, video and chat functions.
